They state that much of the previous data gathered was only for the business sector within a specific county that directly competes with Wal-Mart stores Sobel and Dean Not only had previous research been limited to specific counties, it also did not take into consideration the fact that other large retail stores effect small businesses the same way Wal-Mart stores do; therefore some of the data gathered may be the blame of these other superstores, not simply from Wal-Mart stores.
However just as quickly as some stores fail other businesses open in their place. Sobel and Dean I strongly agree with the results of this article.
The authors used an extensive amount of data to support their claims. In the end I hope that this post helps my readers understand that economists have taken extreme levels to provide unbiased results of the realaffects of Walmart stores.
